Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at contact@elevatewealth.co.nz if you cannot find an answer to your question.

As a licensed financial adviser, our role is to act as your expert guide through the financial world. We work with you to understand your unique situation and goals, then we research and recommend financial products that are suitable for your needs. Our advice is holistic, meaning we look at all aspects of your financial picture, from your mortgage to your long-term savings.

A financial adviser can help you navigate a wide range of financial goals, not just buying a home. We work with you to understand what's most important to you and then find the best loan to match. Some of the most common ways we help our clients include:

  • Buying your first home: We guide you through the entire process, helping you understand your borrowing power, apply for pre-approval, and secure the right loan for your first property.
  • Paying it off sooner: We can help you structure your mortgage to be more efficient, potentially saving you a significant amount in interest over the life of the loan.
  • Reducing your monthly payments: If cash flow is a concern, we can explore options to lower your regular repayments, giving you more financial flexibility.
  • Getting the lowest possible interest rate: We have access to a wide range of lenders and can compare rates and features to negotiate the most competitive rate and terms on your behalf.
  • Funding a big purchase: We can help you leverage your existing home equity to finance a major purchase, such as a new car, a home renovation, or an investment property.
  • Increasing flexibility: We can help you find a loan with features like redraw facilities or the ability to make extra payments without penalty, which gives you more control over your mortgage.
  • Consolidating other debts: We can help you combine high-interest debts, like credit cards or personal loans, into your mortgage to simplify your finances and potentially lower your overall interest payments.

Our free mortgage assessment is a relaxed, no-obligation chat designed to get to know you and your goals. We’ll discuss what you're trying to achieve - whether you're looking to buy your first home, refinance, or invest - and how we can help you.

We want you to feel completely comfortable, so this is your chance to ask anything that’s on your mind. We truly believe there's no such thing as a silly question, and our goal is to be the most approachable mortgage advisers in New Zealand. By the end of our chat, you'll have a clear understanding of our process and the first steps on your financial roadmap.

  1. First chat: The process begins with our mortgage assessment chat (see above). If, after this conversation, you're happy to move forward, we'll proceed to the next steps.
  2. Understand your situation: We’ll gather information from you, including family details, income, assets and other financial information.
  3. Research and recommend: We’ll research the market and ensure our recommendation is the most competitive solution for you that best suits your needs.
  4. Lodge your application: We’ll work with you and the lender and do the legwork to get you pre-approved.
  5. Approval moment and protection: Congratulations! Now you know what you can afford and have the thumbs up from your lender. Next, we’ll see if we can help you get protection for your home and loved ones should anything go wrong.
  6. Settlement process and being together for the long haul: We’ll be there for you during the settlement process to make sure everything goes smoothly. This is just the beginning of our partnership - it’s our ambition to help your financial future thrive, so we’ll be in regular contact with you to check in along the way and review any changes to your situation.

We're paid by the lenders whose products you choose to take up. For most of the financial advice we provide, there is no fee for you. This is possible because we receive a commission from the provider when a loan is settled. This is a standard industry practice, and it allows us to offer our advice service to you at no cost.

No, the commission we receive from a lender does not impact the interest rate or terms of your loan. Lenders offer us the same rates and deals they would offer if you went to them directly. In fact, because we bring a large volume of business to a wide range of lenders, we can often negotiate and secure even better interest rates and terms on your behalf.

Banks use financial advisers because it's a cost-effective way to get more customers. Instead of spending a lot on advertising and staffing branches, they pay financial advisers a commission for each loan they complete.

Financial advisers act as a large distribution team for the banks, bringing in new clients - including first-time buyers and busy professionals - that they might not have reached otherwise. We also handle the entire application process for them, which reduces the workload for the bank's own staff.

As independent advisers, we work for you, not the bank. We have access to a wide range of lenders and products, not just one bank's offerings. This allows us to compare options and find the best solution for your unique circumstances. We also manage the entire application process, saving you time and stress.

We have access to a wide network of over 35 lenders, including all of New Zealand's major banks, non-bank lenders, and specialist finance companies. This is a huge benefit for you, because it means we can compare a vast range of products and lending criteria to find a solution that perfectly fits your unique situation. This ensures you're not limited to just one bank's offerings and increases the likelihood of finding the best possible interest rate, terms, and conditions for your loan. A full list of the lenders that we're accredited with can be found in our Disclosure Statement.

The home loan process involves more than just a mortgage. To secure your loan and protect your future, you often need a range of expert advice—from legal requirements and valuations to comprehensive insurance and financial planning.

We believe in providing holistic financial support, which is why we’ve established a trusted network of specialist partners to assist you with every aspect of your journey. While we don't provide this advice directly, we can refer you to a select group of trusted professionals who share our values and are experts in their fields.

Our network includes:

  • Lawyers for legal and conveyancing support
  • Accountants for structuring your finances
  • Valuers and Builders for property assessments
  • Insurance specialists for life, health, income and home insurance
  • Investment advisers for KiwiSaver and other investment planning

This ensures you receive tailored advice from trusted connections, making your home loan journey as seamless and stress-free as possible.

A holistic wealth roadmap is our comprehensive strategy to ensure your financial decisions are interconnected. When we help you with a mortgage, we don't just see it as a single transaction. We analyse how your home loan fits into your broader financial picture - including your KiwiSaver, investments, and insurance - to help you build a cohesive long-term plan.

Our role is to serve as your primary point of contact, providing you with tailored advice on your lending strategy. When we identify other areas that could benefit from specialist attention, we connect you with trusted experts in our network, such as investment specialists and insurance and legal professionals. This ensures all parts of your financial life work together seamlessly to support your goals.

A clawback is when a lender asks for a commission payment to be returned, usually because a loan was repaid or significantly changed shortly after it was settled. This is a rare event. We do not charge a fee for our advice, but if a clawback occurs, we may charge a fee to recover a portion of the commission that we have to pay back to the lender. This is only ever done by prior agreement with you.

If you have a complaint, please contact us directly so we can resolve it for you as quickly as possible. We aim to provide a resolution within 7 business days. If we're unable to resolve your complaint, you can refer it to an independent service called Financial Services Complaints Limited (FSCL), which is free for you to use.
